Hersonissos Town
Hersonissos is located 25 kilometres east of Heraklion City, on the northern coast and with neighbours like sparkling Stalis and manic Malia it is a very popular resort. There is so much choice in accommodation, ranging from rooms for rent, budget studios right through to luxury hotels. There are lots of places to eat and drink and fantastic nightlife. Hersonissos certainly has plenty to offer.
The harbour of Hersonissos is definitely one of the most interesting places to visit as most of the restaurants, cafés and bars are located along the harbour, making the most popular place in that part of the island.
Hersonissos Beaches
Hersonissos has many beaches and most of them are small and very narrow town beaches full of energy and life. Straight north of the harbour, you will find the largest beach, which is also the best. The beach is 300 metres long and is the only beach in Hersonissos with a fair width.
The facilities vary from beach to beach, but there are sun lounges at all beaches and most of them are supervised by lifeguards during the summer. One of the most popular beaches is Star Beach. It’s the beach in front of the Water Park, and it offers lots of fun activities including giant slides and bungee jumping.
Eating and Drinking
The busy main road and the side streets of Hersonissos are filled with bars, tavernas and restaurants. The choice for eating and drinking is tremendous and cater for all tastes. You can find traditional Greek food but also a huge array of fast food outlets. There are Mexican, Italian, Chinese and Indian restaurants too as well as British favourites such as full English breakfast, burgers and fish and chips.
Hersonissos town is very famous in Europe as a holiday destination for younger people. The coastal road is closed to cars and therefore one can enjoy walking through the many cafe’s, bars and restaurants along the sea.
